The Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office (VDT) issued a legal opinion in 2009 claiming that providing guarantees to KAP aluminium plant that year, in the amount of €135m, was in line with applicable regulations. The Protector of Property and Legal Interests of Montenegro was of the same opinion and assessed that no law had been violated, Pobjeda reports.
These views differ from recent findings by a financial expert hired by the Special Prosecutor’s Office alleging that the former economy minister Branko Vujovic, his former assistant Dragan Kujovic and ten other officials from the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance issued guarantees for PAK and thus cost the state budget, allegedly, €127.4m.
On 26 April this year, the special state prosecutor Lidija Vukcevic interrogated the suspects who, after giving their testimonies, were released pending trial.
