The decision of the Government of Montenegro, by which it ordered the Administration for Cadastre and State Property to correct the registration of the Cetinje Monastery, by transferring the right of ownership from the Capital of Cetinje to the State of Montenegro, stirred up the Montenegrin public again. The decision, made at a telephone session, came after a meeting of representatives of the ruling parties in the Montenegrin government, ahead of a session of the Cetinje parliament where councilors decided on a citizens’ initiative to cede the facility to the Montenegrin Orthodox Church. The Cetinje Monastery currently belongs to the Capital of Cetinje, in the scope of property rights 1/1.
Although the Government has in recent days called for “calming of tensions”, its new decision to unilaterally transfer the property of the Capital to the State may lead to new divisions and incitement of passions.
It is not yet known how the individual members of the Government commented on this decision, and whether DPM Abazovic abstained.
What the public knows is that the religious processions in Montenegro started precisely because of the intention of the state to regulate the issue of ownership of religious buildings through the Law on Freedom of Religion.
It seems that the Government “saved” a few liters of “the gratis oil that it gave to the citizens” in order to put it on the fire that it itself started.
