Last year in Montenegro, one in five women was subjected to violence, and every one in five attacks was reported to institutions, according to Ipsos Strategic Marketing research.
The survey covered 1,014 respondents and was conducted late last year.
It was carried out under the programme on supporting anti-discrimination and gender equality policies, financed by the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Montenegro, and implemented by UNDP in cooperation with the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights.
According to the research results, last year, one in five women was a victim of violence – 17% of physical, 7% of sexual, 38% of psychic and 20% of economic violence.
The research has shown that most cases of violence remain unreported. The reasons for this are fear from abusers and revenge (62%) and fear from condemnation and shame (24%).
