Resolution has the support of 49 parliament members for now, and its contents will be subject to parliamentary discussions during September.

Resolution has nine topics and each of them specifically addresses the importance of Euroatlantic integrations of Montenegro but it does not contain the way in which Montenegro should make a decision about joining NATO.

“Membership in NATO is in the best interest of Montenegro and it’s whole society. It is not an exclusive choice of the ruling party or any other political or intelectual elite. That is why, in realization of reaching the goal of full membership, we will intensify direct, constructive, open and continuous dialogue on all levels and with all citizens. Dialogue that will be free from one-sided interests, irrelevant political discussions, prejudice and irrational emotions. Dialogue between all political subjects, dialogue with civil sector, with media, with public experts. With these dialogues we will expend social consensus in terms of NATO integrations. Consensus that will unite citizens around common interests of progress, prosperity, rule of law and security of the country, society and all individuals”, it is stated in 3rd topic of the Resoluition.

“By membership in NATO we want to become a permanent factor of peace, stability and security for Montenegro in a stable regional environment, which can respond to modern and future security challenges such as organized crime, corruption, terrorism, religious and national extremism, cyber crime. For Montenegro that is equal in decision making while guarding its own interests”, it is written in 5th topic of the Resolution.

Document says that a full membership in NATO means that Montenegro becomes a part of the family of the countries that have stronger economies, higher standard of living, stronger institutions, more developed democracy. In explanation of the resolution it is written that membership in NATO is the best way to protect national interests.
