On 20 September 2025, a book promotion titled “Knights of the Karadjordje’s Star JVuO 1941–1945” by Dejan Djeric and Zoran Nedeljkovic will be held in Pljevlja. The event is organised by a local group known for historical revisionism, led by Novica Stanic, a former politician with strong Serbian nationalist ties. The book, previously promoted in Serbia and the Serb Republic, glorifies notorious Chetnik commanders responsible for wartime massacres, ethnic cleansing, and collaboration with occupying forces during World War II.
Despite the commanders’ violent histories, the book presents them as “knights,” with endorsements from controversial figures like Matija Beckovic, who denies the existence of the Montenegrin nation.
The promotion follows a local political climate increasingly intertwined with Serbian nationalist rhetoric, as seen in recent speeches and public displays by Pljevlja’s mayor supporting the so-called “Serbian World.”
State institutions have remained silent on this and similar revisionist acts, such as the appearance of a monument to one of the commanders, Pavle Djurisic, which sparked controversy but no official response.
This event highlights the troubling rise of historical revisionism in Montenegro, blurring the lines between victims and perpetrators, and raising concerns about whether future generations will learn history based on facts or nationalist myth-making.
