U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro, Judy Rising Reinke, stated that Montenegrin leaders have a unique opportunity—similar to what America’s founders once had—to demonstrate true commitment to democratic values that reflect the aspirations of their citizens. Her remarks came during the celebration of the 249th anniversary of U.S. Independence Day.

She emphasised that fulfilling NATO obligations, strengthening the rule of law, and enhancing trade with the U.S. and Europe are not just political choices, but clear expressions of intent and commitment. Montenegro, she said, clearly affirmed its desire to contribute to European and allied security at the recent NATO leaders’ meeting in The Hague. However, strong words must now be followed by decisive action.

Ambassador Reinke noted that when Montenegro strengthens its defence, secures its borders, invests in its institutions and economy, and fulfills its NATO duties, it contributes to regional stability, prosperity, and a stronger Alliance.

She highlighted recent bilateral achievements, including the first high-level U.S.–Montenegro economic dialogue, a memorandum of understanding on economic cooperation, growing U.S. business interest, and numerous exchange programmes between citizens of both countries.

Looking ahead, she said the U.S. and Montenegro are exploring ways to deepen cooperation and boost American investment, aiming to position Montenegro as a regional economic leader. As the two countries celebrate 120 years of diplomatic relations, she expressed confidence that they are entering a new era of bilateral friendship grounded in a shared vision of security, democracy, and economic partnership.

Reflecting on U.S. Independence Day, she recalled that its essence goes beyond celebration—it commemorates a powerful declaration of universal rights and freedoms, which inspired global movements and shaped generations. Montenegro, she added, echoes those ideals in its modern journey toward independence, NATO membership, and EU integration.
