Traditional event Give, Sell, Buy a Secondhand Textbook will start next Monday in shopping centre Delta City and will last until 4 September. Citizens can look for textbooks they need every day from 6pm to 10pm.
The event is organised by the municipal committee of Trade Union of Education and Delta City. Delta City announced that it would provide donation for children from rural areas of Podgorica as it did last year.
Representative of the Trade Union of Education Slobodan Savovic added that there was an issue when it comes to textbooks for elementary school students.
“There is one issue when it comes to textbooks, having in mind the ongoing education reform implementation. It is not known how the announced changes will affect the work in elementary schools. It is hardly possible to find relevant official who will provide accurate information about plans for certain courses, such as chemistry, history or geography, because the reform stipulates either a reduction in the number of classes per week or curriculum changes,” Savovic pointed out.
He said the union had no communication with the Institute for Textbooks and Teaching Resources about this issue.
“Specifically on this issue we have no communication with the institute. Therefore we are all waiting for 22 August when the institute scheduled a counselling for elementary schools by regions. I think the counselling for teachers from the Podgorica region will be held in 24 August. I hope that concrete information will be available there,” Savovic said.
Speaking as a teacher and a representative of this branch, Savovic said it was not good to wait for a new school year with only one counselling session, given the scope of the changes planned.
