S&P confirms Montenegro’s rating, outlook stable

The Standard&Poor’s (S&P) rating agency has published a new report on Montenegro and affirmed the country’s previous rating of “B+/B” with stable outlook, reported the Ministry of Finance.

The Ministry said: “This shows that another relevant world’s institution has recognized our commitment to implementation of measures for fiscal consolidation, as well as our general increase in economic activity, stemming from the improved general business requirements. The Report indicates that the existing Montenegro’s position has been the result of steady economic growth which has continued in 2018 and it amounts to 3.5%, thanks to developments in tourism, energy area and infrastructure. The analysts find that there has been a 16% growth in tourist arrivals, and overnights rose by approximately 12% especially in the first half of 2018.

The S&P expects the public debt will decrease when the construction of the first motorway section finishes, which actually corresponds with the Ministry’s estimations depicted in the Fiscal Strategy, which defines a range of measures for fiscal consolidation.”
