The reason is, sources say, the fact that both sides have their favorites for the position, selected by diametrically opposite criteria – or their loyalty (and intolerance) towards certain centers of power, writes Dnevne Novine daily.
“As the main Special Prosecutor, I can confirm that the negotiations on formation of this police division are going well and that we can expect to reach the final decision, that is, the best solution, very soon”, said the Special Prosecutor for Organized Crime, Milivoje Katnić, for Dnevne Novine.
He explained that criteria for selection of the chief of this police department are prescribed in the Law on Special State Prosecutor’s Office.
In his statement for the dame daily, DN, Police Director Slavko Stojanovic did not directly comment on the problems in communication between his department and the Special Prosecutor’s Office, but instead repeated that “the procedure regarding the election and installation of Head of the Special Police Department, as well as the selection of its members is currently in progress”.
Despite official claims of the negotiators that they are close to an agreement, sources familiar with thier work claim that they even close, and that both sides are very careful and picky about thier runners for the team.
According to unofficial information, both sides have drafted a list with around 15 names of police elders and prominent members of the criminal police, on which, however, they still have no consensus.
