U.S. infections pass 80.000 and the number of infected people is rising on a daily basis. The United States outnumbered China in terms of the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases, Mr Željko Stamatović, Montenegro’s consul general in New York told Pobjeda daily.
The Ambassador indicated that the situation in New York is alarming: “For now, we have no information that any of our people have been infected with the virus, though nearly half of the infected in the U.S. are from New York.”
He said that people are worried as the virus is spreading rapidly.
“The Consulate General’s staff is at disposal of our emigrants and we are trying to help them as much as our possibilities allow us to do so. We are currently trying to help our students return to Montenegro because the faculties are closed here. And there are people who went on a trip in the United States,” Mr Stamatović noted.
Our people in the U.S. are thinking about Montenegro
Despite this difficult situation and danger, our people in the United States are thinking about Montenegro.
“The Gusinje Foundation donated $30.000, while the Euro Gusinje Association donated $15.000 to help the people of Montenegro. Slobodanka and Momčilo Cakani Pajović, pensioners from New Jersey, donated $22.000, and Montenegro Golf Club from New York will donate $3.000 during the day,” Ambassador Stamatović pointed out.
