Sunday kiosk restrictions to halt newspaper sales

In a joint statement, the three daily newspapers – Pobjeda, Dan and Vijesti – warned that a proposed provision allowing kiosks to operate on Sundays in only a single shift would effectively prevent the sale of daily newspapers, Pobjeda reported.

On Tuesday, the Social Council proposed amendments to the Law on Internal Trade which, among other things, stipulate that newspaper kiosks would be allowed to operate on Sundays in just one shift.

Major kiosk chains have already informed newspaper publishers that if such proposal were adopted, they wouldn’t operate at all on Sundays.

They remind that they objected to those same intentions back in 2019, adding that the Ministry of Economy accepted their arguments and didn’t impose a one-shift restriction on such outlets.
