After conquering the region, the Temu application arrived in Montenegro two months ago. Cheap and easily available products have become popular among citizens, although some have doubts about their quality. On the other hand, domestic entrepreneurs claim that this has had a negative impact on sales, so the Union of Employers emphasizes the importance of the VAT Law, which comes into force on 1 January 2025, according to the TVCG report.
However, the Union of Employers believes that Montenegro cannot and should not fight against the online market. And as one of the ways to protect domestic entrepreneurs, they cite the VAT Law.
“I think that through this legal solution, the Government made a step to protect the economy by running the taxation system. The only thing we export to Temu is our money without the possibility of that money being returned to Montenegro”, says the Union’s representative Gordana Boskovic.
The new law enters into force on 1 January 2025, and includes the charging of postage for all shipments from abroad.
