What will the new government look like?
Yesterday, the well-known Montenegrin journalist Predrag Zecevic published a list of the alleged composition of the new government on Facebook. There are more or less no special surprises, but as it has not been confirmed yet, we would not bid on the names in detail. What is being said on the sidelines these days is that the new government would mean the return of SDP leader Ranko Krivokapic to the big door as Minister of Foreign Affairs. The SDP gets either the Ministry of Defense or the Ministry of Culture, and Dritan Abazovic already announced that the other day, and the SD is looking for a model to nominate someone who is not a party person for one of the positions.
However, the biggest impression is that the new government will be overcrowded with SNP personnel. As many as six ministries will belong to Jokovic’s party. This was confirmed in a statement by Dragan Ivanovic.
What does this mean for Montenegro in the next year?
Some processes will be unblocked, and the SDP is likely to play the opposition within the government. They learned this well in the seventeen-year coalition with the DPS. If they have the same influence as on the DPS policy, then we will have the same situation as with the Krivokapic-Abazovic government. There is a lot of pro-Serbian populism when it comes to the SNP, which, as it is supposed, was given to save from Braticka, was done in education.
What can also be expected from the SDP is that it has been implementing an exit strategy from the beginning due to the term of office of this government. There can also be fake conflicts with the representatives of the SNP in the government, and similar performances in which Abazovic and URA will turn out to be mediators and a voice of reason between “two extremes”.
The SNP will strengthen at the expense of the Front and the Democrats by absorbing the clientelistic voices of that bloc.
The new opposition will consist of the DPS on the one hand, and the DF, the Democrats and Spajic’s movement on the other. Democrats are losing energy and creativity, and there is room for Spajic to grow.
However, the DPS’s position is different from the rest of the opposition, and Djukanovic plastically explained that yesterday. Without them, there is no government, and all the rumors that the DPS will not have an impact on government policy are falling apart.
What is already the worst result of this compromise and agreement is the extinction of critical energy and the protest movement that could have grown into a political alternative. Now is the time to recognize who is made of what and who opposed the government of Krivokapic in principle, and who according to the party’s task.
Threats from Serbia
After the Montenegrin president criticized the arming of Serbia from China and Russia yesterday, Serbian Minister Vulin reacted, sending another insulting message to Montenegro, saying that it was enough for Serbia to send cavalry to break up the demonstration, “if they wanted to harm Montenegro.”
An updated story about Marovic’s extradition
American sanctions against Svetozar Marovic have actualized the story of his extradition. The Montenegrin Ministry of Justice said it had reiterated its urgency to extradite Marovic, and Andrej Milovic, the ministry’s secretary of state, said pressure from Brussels and the United States would help efforts to extradite Marovic to Montenegrin authorities.
After Djukanovic said yesterday, answering questions from journalists, that the reason of stagnation related to Marovic’s extradition was Serbia, Marovic himself appeared in one of Vucic’s close media outlets in Montenegro, in which he made fierce accusations against Djukanovic.
Dismissals in a special police team?
Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novovic has started creating a new team of associates with whom he plans to fight organized crime and corruption. He allegedly insists that the current head of the Special Police Department, Dragan Radonjic, be removed, as well as that the complete composition of the current Special Police Department (SPO) be changed, TV Vijesti reported.
