Next year, during the Czech Republic’s EU Presidency, this country will try to open a debate among the member states over making the decision to define 2025 as the official year for Montenegro’s accession to the EU, diplomatic circles told Dan daily. The Czech Republic will try to reach a broad consensus over this matter having in mind that the EU enlargement has been declared as one of the priorities of their forthcoming EU presidency.

On Thursday, Montenegro’s Chief Negotiator, Zorka Kordic, confirmed that there was an announcement from the Czech Republic that it would open the debate over the exact date of Montenegro’s EU membership.

In late June, the Czech Foreign Affairs Minister Jakub Kulhanek said that the top priority of their presidency would be the Western Balkans, that is, to get the exact date for Montenegro’s and Serbia’s accession to the EU.
