The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) filed two objections to the State Election Commission (DIK) after six out of 13 members of the capital’s election commission tried to declare official election results and because the chair of the election commission was appointed in defiance of law and the rules of procedure. The DPS is adamant – they don’t want this legal violence to damage the interests of Podgorica residents.
“Namely, after the session of the capital’s Election Commission was finished, a small number of members and a person who falsely presents himself as a member of the Election Commission even though his function ceased by operation of law the moment he accepted the candidacy for councilor, first made an illegal decision on the election of the chair, and then, without needed quorum, decided on objections and the final results,” the DPS said.
Apart from the State Election Commission, the DPS believes that the Special State Prosecutor’s Office should also involve in this case in order to finalize the election process through institutions of the system, and not through informal groups of citizens who think they can violate the Constitution and the country’s laws.
The capital’s DPS underlines that the will of Podgorica residents must be respected and it’s going to be verified in line with the law, through a new composition of the city’s assembly.
