One of the biggest environment polluters is traffic, the negative effect of which is manifested in several ways – through air, water and soil pollution, loud noise, according to the Information on the State of the Environment in Montenegro for 2023. The number of motor vehicles in 2023 was 285,257. Most vehicles use diesel and Eurosuper 98, which increases environmental pollution.
It is emphasized that the number of motor vehicles in Montenegro increased from 164,626 in 1998 to 285,257 in 2023.
In 2023, a total of 220,396 motor vehicles and trailers used diesel (78.38% of the total number of vehicles).
Eurosuper 95 was used by 52,851 motor vehicles, which is 18.79% of the total number of vehicles. Autogas was used by 5,561 vehicles, which is 1.97% of the total number of vehicles. Electric vehicles made up 0.86% of the total number of vehicles in 2023.
The increase in the average age of cars further increases environmental pollution.
The average age of all vehicles in 2022 was 12.54 years. It increased by 11.36% compared to 1998, and decreased by 7.5% compared to 2019.
The density of vehicles in Montenegro in 2022 was 430 passenger cars per 1000 inhabitants.
