She said, on a seminar Protection of human trafficking victims in criminal procedures, that the report of the State Department shows that standards for solving the human trafficking have still not been met. She emphasized that it was noted that Montenegrin government, via the Office for fight against human trafficking is working very hard on prevention although the budget as lowered.
“That is something that governments often do now, but it’s very sad regardless”, she said as radio Antena M reported.
Head of the Office for fight against human trafficking Zoran Ulama said that recruiting, kidnapping, sale and enslaving the people are issues that are within human trafficking and that they are big problems for all of the countries in the world. The fact that human trafficking is growing in both EU and the world just shows that current mechanisms that we have are just not sufficient.
”Montenegro has the capacity to deal with its obligations and is truly devoted to fighting this phenomenon”, said Ulama.
Human trafficking in Montenegro is not a systematic problem, said Ulama, it’s more an issue of individual cases. He said that Montenegro is mostly the transit country, and less the country of origin or the destination.
American ambassador said that human trafficking is one of the most severe examples of human rights violation.
“Respecting the human rights is a value shared by all countries members of NATO and that is something that is an important part of Montenegrin road towards Alliance. It is crucial to make sure that all measures have been taken in order to slove this form of modern slavery”, emphasized Uyehara.
