Veterans from Herceg Novi support Orascom’s project

“The Orascom project should be supported. Our position has been formed neither easily nor impulsively,” the veterans communicated.

They reminded they had led an initiative against long-term lease of the island of Lastavica with the Mamula fortress.

“However, our resistance made us ask ourselves what the alternative was and when our piety towards this unique facility and its history would outgrow weeds and general disregard such an important historical, cultural, architectural site and a place of suffering was treated with… There is no museum or curator for history of this island. There is not even a decent approach there or a memorial board to “testify” what the Lastavica Island and those who survived Mamula had gone through,” the Organisation communicated.

They added that after the talks with representatives of the “Orascom” company they were sure that they would restore the fortress and construct a museum of our anti-fascist history with special reverence.

“We were guaranteed that the place and the museum would be open and available to everyone 365 days a year. The original appearance of the fortress will be restored and it will become a place of meetings, gatherings, festivals and art workshops,” the veterans said, concluding they would lead public support to the project of Mamula restoring as they used to lead the anti-fascist movement in the Bay of Boka.
