Vujanovic said that the fact that Russian president Vladimir Putin recently received Montenegrin ambassador’s letters of credence indicated that the country was willing to rehabilitate relations with Montenegro in the future, although they were at a low level.
“If he had wanted to send a message of persisting at low level relations between Montenegro and Russia, he would not have received those letters. That would have been a clear diplomatic message that our relations would remain the same or even worse in the perspective”, the president said, PinkM TV carried.
Vujanovic is convinced that these relations will be at a much higher level after Montenegro becomes a full member of NATO.
“Trust me – it is in NATO’s interest too. For clear global reasons, the alliance wants relations with Russia that are appropriate to the need for global action and the fight against terrorism, which is now an important global challenge”, Vujanovic added.
He commented on recent developments in Montenegro and the arrest of the criminal group that plotted terrorist attacks on the election day.
“The public may not participate in the activities of the police, prosecutors and courts… Those are delicate matters… Let us leave to the Prosecutor’s Office and courts to provide evidence in cooperation with other relevant institutions and the Montenegrin public would be presented the truth after the final verdict”, said Vujanovic.
Commenting on the opposition’s decision to boycott Parliament’s sessions, Vujanovic said that it was a result of their party interests, adding that such experience had never been positive in Montenegro.
According to him, opposition’s call to foreign entities to get involved in solving this problem is questionable as well.
“Their expectation from the important foreign entities to get involved in internal political situation in Montenegro does not correspond with what the international community has already said. So, we got very clear messages that participation in the Parliament is the best way to achieve policy goals and that it was the most efficient model to respect citizens’ will particularly in the situation where they have 39 seats”, Vujanovic said.
