Vuković: We are ready to continue talks about election legislation

Miodrag Vukovic

The ruling coalition still believes that it’s possible to finish dialogue on the election legislation with other parliamentary entities, primarily the opposition. We are ready for talks and it’s up to them to decide, Mr Miodrag Vuković of the Democratic Party of Socialists, DPS, told Pobjeda daily, noting that the ruling coalition is acting in the parliament and cannot accept to perform affairs in the streets and during religious services.

When asked whether there’s room for talks about the election legislation right now when the govt and the opposition are pretty divided due to the law on religion, Mr Vuković said OF COURSE THERE IS.

“Of course there is. And there always was. The Montenegrin parliamentarism is mature enough, democracy has been practiced as well as the democratic parliamentary procedures, even when it comes to these and other important key issues related to the development of the state. The initiative exists. It’s up to others to decide whether they will accept the proposal and return to dialogue in the institution or they will continue insisting on the wrong choice, using the situation that they themselves concocted,“ Mr Vuković noted.

According to him, it is possible to review the election legislation in the election year.

“The practice is that you do not amend normative and other requirements in the election year, at least not radically. But there are also opinions that there is a possibility to review the legislation until the elections are called for, which probably includes the possibility for improving the existing electoral legislation.”
