From today 15 November to 1 April, winter tyres are mandatory for all drivers in Montenegro to grip the road better in icy, wet and snowy conditions.
“In line with Article 132 of the Road Traffic Safety Law, it’s prescribed that from 15 November to 1 April, all vehicles of the categories M and N (vehicles for passengers and cargo transport) which take part in traffic during winter conditions (snow, or when there’s ice and snow on routes) must have winter tyres installed,” the National Police stated.
Based on the law, there’ll be an Order issued on the period of time and the road, that is, parts of the road where winter tyres are going to be mandatory regardless of the weather conditions. This means that a vehicle must have the minimum tyre tread depth of 4mm.
In addition, when there are winter conditions (snow or ice) on routes which are not part of the Order, all four winter tyres must be fitted to vehicles.
If a driver’s driving on roads or routes which are not part of the Order, and there’s no snow or ice on them, winter tyres in that case are not mandatory.
