Young citizens returning to family estates

More and more Montenegrin citizens, especially young ones, has a desire to return to family estates, because they recognize agriculture as a chance to start their own business, said Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Advisor in Directorate for rural development of the Ministry Milos Kusovac said that young people are encouraged by state’s support and funds of EU.

He reminded that the Ministry provided funds for buying livestock, equipment, water supply systems, etc. He believes that this support is in line with expectations and needs of agricultural producers.

“Judging by the interest of young people for measures in rural development, I believe that this year we will make a step forward in having them return to agriculture”, Kusovac said.

This is the first time there is a measure directed at young farmers.

“We continue with our program for young beekeepers. Those younger than 30 have additional points in public calls”, Kusovac sadi. IPARD funds also support the youth.

This year, young unemployed people with education in agriculture or veterinary services will be able to get 10.000 EUR for starting an agricultural business.

“They will have a mentor, which is a further guarantee of success”, Kusovac said.

Kusovac underlined that it is important to have services of the Ministry available to young citizens, so they can get advice, support and help in creating projects for further funds.
