The construction project for the new Hotel Durmitor in Zabljak, worth over tens of millions of euros and backed by renowned international architectural firms and the luxury Aman Resorts, is now well underway, Pobjeda daily reports.
Based on the conceptual design that Pobjeda had the insight into, the new Durmitor Hotel will combine the authentic appearance of the former property with the most advanced standards of luxury tourism, positioning it as the most exclusive luxury hotel in Europe.
While fully preserving the exterior identity of the original building, the complex featuring 12 luxury villas and bungalows surrounding the hotel, has been designed to blend almost seamlessly into the natural landscape of Durmitor.
Information obtained by Pobjeda that the public has known for the past six years dismisses claims by an environmental activist suggesting the “hotel was handed over to Statis”. The facts show that the old Hotel Durmitor was purchased only at the 17th auction, after no interested bidders had been willing to pay the asking price in any of the previous 16 rounds.
This, as they claim, in itself speaks volumes about the actual condition of the hotel, which had been deteriorating for years due to inadequate maintenance.
Although the new owners were under no obligation to preserve the appearance of the old hotel, they opted to ensure that the new project fully retained the authentic exterior of the former Durmitor. As a result, the new hotel will effectively serve as an architecturally identical replica of the original building, while incorporating fully modern amenities and technologies.
The project brings together some of the world’s leading architectural firms, while the luxury Aman Resorts that has been successfully running some of the world’s most exclusive hotels, including many in UNESCO-protected areas, is expected to return as the hotel operator.
The entire hotel is being developed under Aman’s luxury Janu concept, aimed at bringing a new dimension to mountain tourism in Montenegro, with a strong focus on wellness and nature-oriented living.
Construction works so far have taken over EUR 5 mil, while additional EUR 35 mil would be needed to actually finish the project.
Architectural teams are currently working with Aman Resorts on an additional revision of the project, as certain technical solutions envisaged in the original plans have become outdated during the years-long arbitration process and pause in implementation. The aim is to incorporate the most advanced systems and technological solutions in the final phase, positioning the hotel among the very top tier of European luxury tourism.
If everything goes according to plan, the new Hotel Durmitor could become one of the most prestigious mountain resorts in Europe, potentially even more luxurious and contemporary than the famous Aman hotel in Courchevel, France.
