General hospital in Nikšić is getting a modern helidrome, construction of which is already underway, said director of that institution, Dr Ilija Ašanin. The helidrome will be located between Psychiatry department and the doors. The deadline for the completion of works is 70 days. Citizens of Nikšić, Šavnik and Plužine will be provided with healthcare service as soon as possible.
Construction of the helidrome especially took into consideration emergency effects of transport of the injured persons via air, as the complex of the hospital doesn’t have appropriate landing areas.
“So far, helicopters have landed on the nearest location in Kapino Polje, 3 km away from the hospital. Patients had to be taken from the helicopter to the hospital vehicle and that slowed down the process of providing effective health service”, Dr Ašanin said.

He says that Montenegro is recognized as one of the most beautiful tourist destinations, with increasing number of tourists visiting the country every year.
“Citizens of Nikšić, Šavnik and Plužine will be provided with quick healthcare service. Patient whose condition requires clinical treatment will be immediately transported to the Clinical Center or surrounding referent institutions. Also, people in remote and not easily accessible areas, especially during winter, will be directly transported to the hospital”, Dr Ašanin said.
The project was financed by the U.S. Embassy. The Embassy chose BS-T company from Albania for the contractor.
