Baby dies in Niksic Hospital, autopsy ordered, case being investigated

A two-day-old baby died last night at Niksic General Hospital, CdM has been informed by the police.

“Niksic Police Department, in cooperation with the High State Prosecutor’s Office, is undertaking measures and actions to establish all the circumstances under which the death occurred. An autopsy was ordered. Several medical personnel members have been questioned”, the police have told CdM.

Niksic General Hospital director Dusanka Milatovic Perovic has confirmed to the RTNK portal that the baby died last night and that the case was reported to the police and the prosecutor’s office, and that the procedure is ongoing.

“The baby stopped breathing, we cannot say anything about the cause until we get the results of the autopsy to be performed today”, says Milatovic Perovic.

Niksic General Hospital was previously in the spotlight due to several cases.

In June of this year, a woman from Niksic filed a lawsuit against the Hospital for endangering her health and negligent work, after a cannula was surgically removed from a vein on her arm, which, she claims, remained there after a caesarean section performed on 12 January of this year.

Also, last year, a patient who was admitted to the Internal Medicine Ward of the Niksic Hospital was mistakenly given blood, and in addition it was the blood of inappropriate type. The patient then experienced anaphylactic shock, after which he was urgently transferred to the Clinical Center of Montenegro.
