Minister of Justice Andrej Milovic said in Parliament today that the case of former Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic was being misused and politicized. Katnic was arrested on 14 April and has been on hunger strike for 25 days. Since a few days ago, he has been on thirst strike.

“All the necessary measures are being taken against him, as against all other detainees. It is not the first time that someone goes on hunger or thirst strike at the Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions (UIKS)”, Milovic added.

He pointed out that Katnic was taken to the Clinical Centre of Montenegro (KCCG) several times.

“He refused to go to the KCCG. He has the right to go on a hunger strike and as long as he is conscious, we have no right to put him in the hospital. We wanted to enable him to be admitted to the KCCG ward, but he refused in front of witnesses, which he signed. Whatever happens to him, he himself is to be held accountable for that”, Milović added.

DPS MP Oskar Huter called on the High Court, the Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions and the Prosecutor’s Office to publicly announce the state of health of Milivoje Katnic and the measures taken to protect his health.

“Whose responsibility will it be if Katnic dies in prison”, Hutter asked.

Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic called on the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office and Special State Prosecutor’s Office to take care of Katnic’s health.
