Montenegro has never been safer than now

Andreja Katič

When we in Slovenia learnt about incidents in Montenegro on election day on 16 October last year, we became concerned. We were happy that nothing serious had happened. We want a quick epilogue of the event, since the efficient functioning of all branches of government confirmed that Montenegro was a state with the rule of law, said Slovenian defence minister Andreja Katic.

In an interview with Pobjeda, she said that Montenegro, as a full member of NATO, would certainly reinforce its sovereignty, its statehood and its own stability, as well as international reputation and respect.

“Stable Montenegro has a positive effect on the region, especially when the country has clearly defined development direction,” said Katic.

Speaking about the relations between Montenegro and Slovenia, she said a good and successful bilateral cooperation in defence and military areas had been established since Montenegro’s independence restoration.

“Our relations are friendly and fair. In addition to regular meetings at a high level, in recent years we have given emphasis primarily to practical and professional cooperation. Most of the activities are focused on the transfer of knowledge and experience acquired by Slovenia in the decade of being a full member of NATO. Many activities have enabled the transfer of modern experience and harmonisation of standards in the defence sector, which proved to be multilevel benefit in the process of Montenegro’s integration into the alliance. Both countries have developed broad, fruitful and successful mutual defence and military cooperation, which is based on annual programs of bilateral cooperation,” said Katic.
