Director of the Police Directorate Slavko Stojanovic strongly condemned the inappropriate and unprofessional conduct of police officers that could be seen on the video which has become viral in Montenegro today. He urgently ordered the head of Podgorica police to dismiss the chief of the Intervention Unit Milan Radusinovic.
A video of police officers beating three young men in the centre of Podgorica has been shared on social media. Podgorica police have announced that they will take all measures to investigate the incident, and the Council for Civic Control of the Police called on the competent authorities to solve the case.
Stojanovic clearly states – Police Directorate will not tolerate violation of citizens’ rights and any such behaviour will be strictly sanctioned.
“At the same time, I use the opportunity to call on citizens to report to the police every possible form of abuse of power by police officers, since the police primarily serve the citizens and its task is to undertake activities in the interests of the citizens. Cooperation with citizens strengthens mutual trust and contributes to the identification of individual cases of unprofessional behaviour and their eradication, which contributes to preserving not only the image of the police, but also security in general,” Stojanovic said.
