On this day, in 1944, Podgorica was razed to the ground in the Allied bombing, as it is usually said. The bombs hit Nazi soldiers. According to some sources, 4 and, according to some, 17 members of Hitler’s troops were hit. Between 300 and 800 Montenegrin civilians suffered as what is euphemistically called “collateral damage”.

Yesterday, in 1980, Tito died. He was the man who raised our price: he made us more expensive than we ever were, only to make us, later on, cheaper than anyone ours ever was. He was the man who created the land that you could not buy for some petty cash – a country where the ambassadors of the great powers were cherished guests, but not arrogant colonial governors, as they are today.
