The CEO of the Airports of Montenegro, Roko Tolic, has called on authorities to urgently decide on the airport concession process, stating that ongoing delays are creating operational uncertainty and affecting business performance. He noted that airport operations are currently under pressure while aviation partners are seeking clarity on future contractual and management arrangements.
Tolic stressed that 2027 should bring infrastructure improvements, including terminal expansion and additional gates, as current facilities are nearing capacity following record passenger numbers. He highlighted that Montenegro recorded over three million passengers last year, with a further 18% increase in May compared to the same record period, underscoring strong demand and growing pressure on infrastructure.
While expressing belief that the airports could be restructured using domestic capacities, he said that a concession would accelerate development due to slower procedures in public institutions. He also pointed to strong interest from airlines, including low-cost carriers, and noted the need to balance capacity between international operators and the national carrier.
